our INGREDIENTS

WE ARE A BRAND THAT GOES AGAINST THE GRAIN®

We are different. We are not the same. We don’t use the same ingredients as other brands. We use British grown, time honoured crops, as much as we can, supporting our British farmers.

hemp

A few little things before we get into how nutritiously valuable hemp is for your horse…

Hemp is not cannabis.

Hemp is a crop that is legal to grow in the UK with a license. Hemp is a crop that grows without fertiliser or treated with pesticides. Hemp has many, many benefits.

We encourage curiosity here.

Now that that’s out the way…

Digestible proteins with profiles ideal for skeletal muscle generation, development and recovery: Includes bioactive peptides that help support vascular function and blood pressure modulation.

Prebiotic effect because of the fibre profile which contains high levels of soluble fibre and pectin’s. Slow release energy components have good proportion of butyrate, involved in optimising gut health

Natural antioxidants that support the horse’s natural anti-imflammatory processes.

It’s a real WOW crop that not many people (or farmers!) know about…

Also known as holy hay. A Victorian crop that we believe is another unsung hero with many benefits.

Highly palatable and very digestible forage feed (DM digestibility 20% greater than grass/hay!)

Rich in bioactive polyphenols, condensed tannins and carotenoids; involved in maintaining skin, coat and eye condition.

Optimises antioxidant capability of the microbiome, supporting the horses natural defences to pathogens and parasitic helminths.

sainfoin

Linseed, also known as flaxseed, is increasingly recognised for its substantial health benefits, not just for humans but for horses as well. Its nutritional profile can offer several advantages when included in the diet of horses.

The fibre content in linseed can help improve digestive health.

Linseed is an excellent energy source, providing calories needed for daily activities and performance without the risk of over-excitement that can sometimes be associated with high-grain diets. This makes it particularly beneficial for endurance horses or those needing sustained energy levels over longer periods.

Grass, in its various forms, serves as a fundamental component of horse diets, offering not just nutritional value but also supporting overall health and well-being. When provided as chop (short-chopped grass) or pellets, grass can have specific benefits for horse.

Short chop grass can stimulate chewing, which is beneficial for saliva production. Saliva acts as a natural buffer to stomach acids, thus helping in the prevention of gastric ulcers. The physical structure of chopped grass also aids in promoting a healthy rate of passage through the digestive tract, reducing the risk of impaction colic.

Grass provides essential vitamins and minerals that contribute to overall health, including vitamin E, potassium, and magnesium. These nutrients support various bodily functions, from muscle health to nerve function.
